discipleship at First baptist church

Jesus said the task of the Church is to, "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you..." (Matthew 28:19-20a)

Jesus' mission to the church is that we endeavor to go and find people who do not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Reach them with the Good News, the Gospel. Then after they have placed their faith in Jesus, they are to be baptized showing their public profession of faith and public identity as a disciple of Jesus and member of His body. Finally, Jesus said we are to teach people all that He commanded. This is often referred to as discipleship.

A disciple is a learner. Not just one who learns information like a student, but one who learns information so as to become like the person they are learning from. Discipleship is the process the church engages in to instruct disciples of Jesus to see them grow in their knowledge, love, and service to the Lord.

At First Baptist Church it is our aim to take part in Jesus' mission to make disciples. Once someone becomes a disciple, we endeavor to teach them and help them grow into a more mature disciple that follows Jesus for life. To this end, we have various opportunities for Christians to grow as a disciple.

The pastor teaches through how to understand the Bible cover-to-cover through the lens of the Kingdom fo God. It is a time of Bible instruction that is linked to principles and applications for Christians to live by in their own lives.
